The Sea surrounding Denmark

Denmark is a small country geographically surrounded by water, and most of its ancient History is therefore closely related to the sea.

The location just in between the Baltic Sea to the East, and the North Sea to the West; the Scandinavian peninsular to the Northeast and North, and just connected by a short border to Germany to the South, has always implied a strategic major naval importance.

The faith of the Kingdom of Denmark has for centuries mostly been depending of the strength of the Danish naval forces, and the History of the Navy reflects this situation.

The waters surrounding the country have for decades supplied food to the nation as well.

The waters, however, have always acted as both the first and last line of defense on many occasions.

The sovereignty of the nation has several times during the history been depending upon the strength of the Navy. Some times successfully, sometimes not.

The Arab Legion, Jordan 1920-1956

In October 1920, after taking over the Transjordan region, the United Kingdom formed a unit of 150
men called the "Mobile Force" under the command of Captain Frederick Gerard Peake to defend the territory
against both internal and external threats. The Legion was based in Zarqa and 80% of its men were the local Chechens.

The Arab Legion was financed by Britain and commanded by British officers.
The force was formed as a police force to keep order among the tribes of Transjordan
and to guard the important Jerusalem–Amman road.

In Jordan 1939, John Bagot Glubb, better known as Glubb Pasha
became the Legion's commander along with Major General Abdul Qadir Pasha Al Jundi
as his deputy commander both transformed it into the best trained Arab army

During World War II
The Arab Legion took part in the British war effort against pro-Axis forces in the Middle East Theatre
By then the force had grown to 1,600 men.
